Playing Poetry

In February 2023 Nick founded Playing Poetry, an organisation that champions playful and interactive literature, through exhibitions, workshops and tailored events. The goal is to present a platform for game-based writing and provide an inclusive network for writers and game-makers.

Playing Poetry has emerged from many years in poetry publishing, producing live literature, and developing experimental games, with exhibitions at Somerset House, and commissions from The National Poetry Library, The Edwin Morgan Society, and Edgelandia.

In October 2023, Playing Poetry launched the Poetry Games exhibition, running for four months at the National Poetry Library (Southbank Centre, London). Alongside the exhibition, Playing Poetry ran an events programme of game-making workshops, machinima film screenings, and performances. A commissions programme facilitated five artists to make new interactive poetic work across physical and digital media, including Wood Wide Web which went on to tour internationally.

From October to December 2023, Nick Murray facilitated a short course for the Poetry School, introducing a new cohort of poets to interactive and playful poetry.

In May 2023 Playing Poetry produced a showcase of performed and exhibited poetic work for A MAZE Festival

In June 2023 Playing Poetry will present a library of games for Belfast Book Festival.
